Tonight’s Powerball jackpot has ballooned to the seventh largest jackpot in history, currently at $360 million.
Lottery officials say the cross-selling of Powerball and Mega Millions tickets, and a game redesign last year have boosted jackpots and increased the odds of at-least winning something.
An Iowa Lottery spokesperson says the large jackpots are the new normal.
The last major win came when a New Jersey man won a $338.3 million jackpot on March 23. It is considered the fourth largest Powerball jackpot in history.
The largest jackpot was split by a winner in Arizona and a winner from northwest Missouri last November. The Dearborn couple and the Arizona winner split the $587 million jackpot. The Dearborn couple won the 27th Powerball Jackpot awarded to Missouri Residents.
Last December, A Johnson County Kansas Couple won a $50 million jackpot.
The latest drawing is scheduled Wednesday night. It has a $229.2 million cash value.
