A scholarship expansion at Missouri Western will allow four years of scholarships.

The Missouri Western A+ Scholarship program previously covered the first two years of college. University President Robert Vartabedian says the program offers the most funding for Students from Andrew and Buchanan Counties.

“The Missouri Western A+ Scholarship program was a great success in its first year, with more than 140 students taking advantage of the aid opportunity in 2012-2013,” said Dr. Robert Vartabedian, Missouri Western’s president. “These changes will provide even greater assistance and flexibility to our students.”

The A Plus scholarship program administered by the state only covers the first two years of college after previously covering all four years

In addition to high school graduates entering Missouri Western this fall, both changes apply to students who were awarded the scholarship in its first year and are eligible for renewal.

The expansion, announced, Wednesday, will include extra funding for students from Andrew and Buchanan Counties. St Joe School District Superintendent Melody Smith says the program grants respect to students enrolled in the program.

“Western found a solution to honor their(students)work and respect them,” Smith said. “for that we are very grateful on behalf of not only students but for many parents whose pocket-books you just impacted.”

A qualifying student from Andrew or Buchanan County entering Missouri Western this fall could receive a total of more than $24,000 in assistance over four years.
