There was a wide-spread power outage in St Joseph Wednesday evening that left more than four thousand KCP&L customers in the dark.

Utility spokeswoman Rebecca Galati says an “equipment failure issue” caused the outage.

All power was restored by about 9 pm.

At the peak of the outage at 6:34 p.m., Galati says there were 4,264 customers in the St Joseph service area in the dark.

The outage forced some businesses along St Joseph Avenue to close up shop.  Traffic lights went dark across the north end and along St Joseph Ave.
