The city council in Maryville opted to make one change to the city’s liquor ordinances, and decided not to change another.
Bars in Maryville are now allowed to sell liquor on Sundays, after the council brought the local ordinance into line with recent changes to the state statute. All bars may now sell alcoholic beverages from 10am until 10pm on Sundays.
Bars that generate 50% or more of their revenue from food sales, can offer alcohol from 9am until midnight on Sundays.
City Manager Greg McDanel says the change will go into effect immediately once the mayor signs the new ordinance.
The council decided not to change the rules for 19-year-olds at bars. As before, people 19 and over may fraternize a bar, but may not consume alcohol. McDanel says each establishment is allowed to set its own rules. He says at least one bar in Maryville is set to raise it’s minimum age to 21 for all people entering.
