Flooding Contributes To Drownings In Missouri, Arkansas

MSWP patchEmergency responders in Missouri recovered the bodies of at least three drowning victims since Friday. Three drownings in Arkansas Friday were attributed to severe storms that killed nine people in Oklahoma.

Sergeant Mike Watson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol says two men tried to cross a low-water bridge on a Lawrence County road early Friday when their pickup truck was swept off the roadway. He says one of the men was able to get to safety.

Emergency workers recovered the body of 72-year-old Gene Cable of Monett later on Friday.

An Ellington, Missoui man was killed Saturday after he got stuck in a drainage pipe and drowned. The Missouri State Water Patrol identifies the victim as Mathiew A. Stanley, 55.

According to an online report, Stanley was in the water on a priate pond five miles south of Ellington at 9:20 am Saturday when he became lodged in the drainage pipe. Investigators say he was unable to free himself and drowned.

A teenager from Eldon, Missouri is dead after a flooding incident in Miller County Friday night.

State troopers say Donald Parker, 17, was playing near a storm drainage culvert at 7:20 pm Friday when he fell in and was swept away. His body was recovered the next day by the Eldon Fire Department about a mile from where he fell in.
