Officials at the Meierhoffer Funeral Home say “hordes” of people have inquired whether flowers from their loved ones’ graves had been stolen. That, after a St Joseph couple were arrested for allegedly stealing the flowers.

General Manager Eric Montegna of Meierhoffer Funeral Home and Memorial Park Cemetery says they’re holding on to a lot of stolen decorations seized by police.

“We have one truckload, and it was full,” Montegna said. “Many live plants, and items that came off of graves from a variety of cemeteries.”

“I would say between 50 and 100 graves worth of flowers and other items are what we have in our area right now.”

Montegna says a lot of people who visited on Monday morning have recognized items in the secure storage area.

The suspects were arrested after a witness spotted them at Memorial Park Cemetery and took down their license tag numbers.
