Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney Dwight Scroggins says no decision has been made about charging a suspect in the death of his cellmate at the county jail early Tuesday morning.

“There are a lot of things that need to get done before we can make a decision,” Scroggins said. “We are waiting for preliminary autopsy reports, and the Sheriff’s Office is still conducting interviews. It will likely be the first part of next week before a charging decision is made.”

Michael Bozarth, 25, of St Joseph was found dead in his cell around 2am Tuesday by jail staff. Inmates had reported hearing a commotion in the cell. There were only two inmates in the cell at the time of the killing.

Bozarth was a repeat sex offender, and was awaiting trial on new sodomy charges involving the abuse of children under the age of nine.
