Clay County DWI Checkpoint Nets 14 DWI Arrest

DUI-2Authorities checked more than 600 motorist during a DWI checkpoint over the weekend in Clay County, resulting in 14 DWI arrest.

676 cars rolled through the checkpoint Saturday evening at the interchange of I-29 and US 169 in Clay County.

Highway Patrol Troop A commanding officer Captain Robert Powell says the checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Gladstone police assisted the Highway Patrol, which also arrested three for misdemeanor drug charges, one for drug paraphernalia and another arrest on a misdemeanor warrant.

Captain Powell stated, “Statistics indicate every two hours and thirty minutes someone in Missouri is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated.”

The checkpoint was conducted in memory of Clifton J. Scott, of MoDOT. Scott was killed last September while assisting Independence Police along Interstate 70.
