A Kansas man was sentenced to more than 19 years in prison for the death of his his four-year-old son. Brown County District Judge James Patton ordered Lee “Jimmy” Davis IV of Hiawatha to serve 200 months for second degree murder and another 34 months for felony abuse of a child. Davis pleaded no contest to the charges on April 30.
Judge Patton also ordered Davis to pay $204 in court costs and $4,894.36 for the cost of the boy’s funeral.
Young Mekhi Boone was pronounced dead March 5th after suffering an extensive beating.
A Hiawatha woman was also charged on connection with Boone’s death. Janice Summerford, 28, Davis’es live-in girlfriend, was charged with aiding and abetting murder in the second degree, aiding and abetting felony child abuse and obstructing apprehension or prosecution.
Summerford is being held under one million dollars bond pending a preliminary hearing September 18. Investigators said she was present during the beating.
