Two Hurt In Separate Crashes Linked To Traffic Congestion

MSHP purpleHighway congestion on I-29 Friday contributed to two crashes that sent two young people to the hospital.

A two car crash in a construction zone on I-29 just south of St Joseph injured a two-year-old boy just before 1pm Friday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a Volkswagen driven by Jessica Kurtz of Kansas City, Mo. hit the rear bumper of another vehicle.

Both vehicles careened off the west side of the highway. A passenger in the Volkswagen, two-year-old Justin Durfee, suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center.

In a separate incident, road congestion from an earlier crash contributed to a collision in southern Buchanan County that sent a Missouri teenager to the hospital with minor injuries Friday night.

At about 8pm Friday, a Toyota Camry rear-ended a Kia Sedona at mile marker 31.2 on I-29, sending the Toyota off the west side of the highway. According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, passenger in the Toyota, 13-year-old Mickaeylla Sproat of Adrian, suffered minor injuries.

She was taken by private vehicle to Heartland Regional Medical Center.
