Betty J. Shope, 77, formerly of Allen, Ks, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at her son’s home in St. Joseph, surrounded by family.

Born February 14, 1936, the daughter of Harry and Hazel Adkins Milam.

On March 26, 1953, she married Irving (Hap) Shope, he preceded her in death October 6, 1992.

Betty worked for USD 251 as a bus driver for many years and as summer custodial help. She also worked at the senior center in Allen, KS.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband; four brothers; one sister and grandson Jason Meyer.

Survivors include ten children, Barbara (Don) Meyer, Savannah, Mo; Rick Shope, White City, Ks; Glenda (Dan) Kerstetter, Leon, Ks; Kathy Woodwood, Jacksonville, Fl; Gloria (Rick) Darrow, Easton, Ks; Ron (Deb) Shope, Emporia, Ks; Gerald (Heather) Shope, St. Joseph, Mo; Jackie (Rich) Leakey, Winchester, Ks; Don (Christy) Shope, DeSoto, Ks; and Kim Hodge, Silver Lake, Ks; twenty-five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Youth Center under direction of Clark-Sampson Funeral Home. Interment following in Allen Cemetery, Allen, Ks. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
