Odds & Ends On Independence Day

fireworks at nightDuring the Independence Day holiday weekend, authorities around the country are voicing concerns about fireworks, drunk driving, and hot weather problems.

St Joseph Police remind us that because of dry conditions, there are restrictions on what kind of fireworks you can set off legally.

Generally speaking, if a firework goes up in the air or lights on fire, it is illegal and you could be fined.

The City of St Joseph is offering parties along the Missouri River tonight, and a nightworks display from Wyeth Hill that should be visible from many parts of town. St Joe Frontier Casino and the Heritage Park Softball Complex will offer food, drink, live music, and public seating. You can also sit in the large parking lot near the Remington Nature Center.  Find out more here.

The Brown County town of Robinson, Kansas will once again celebrate Independence Day with a bang! There’s a lot happening in town, including derby races, a parade, and the Robinson Lions Club homemade ice cream and cake social and a fireworks display. The city has posted details here.

Law enforcement agencies across the state will be out in force to keep the roads safe from drunk and impaired drivers.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will station troopers along I-35 through this Sunday. Officials say the CARE Program, the Combined Accident Reduction Effort, will be in play in Northwest Missouri and across the state.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department is taking part in a statewide sobriety project July 3 to 7. A DWI saturation patrol will be conducted throughout the county in an effort to keep impaired drivers off the road throughout the holiday weekend.
