NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country singer Randy Travis remains in critical condition after being taken to a Dallas hospital on Sunday with heart problems.
Travis’ publicist says the 54-year-old is being treated for viral cardiomyopathy, a heart condition caused by a virus.
He underwent surgery Monday following his admission to a hospital in Texas.
“We have been told he has had surgery,” Teresa Traywick, the wife of Randy’s brother Ricky Traywick, told “People” magazine. “Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family.”
The Grammy-winning country singer, 54, had been scheduled to play the Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, S.D., on Wednesday, but that show has been cancelled.
