Muslims in Saint Joseph observe Ramadan Tuesday through August 7. Ramadan is a time for self-reflection and renewing one’s faith. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and sensual pleasures from dawn to dusk, increasing their prayers, acts of charity, and reading from the Qur’an.
The annual monthlong fast is one of the five pillars, or basic requirements, for all Muslims. The mosque of the Islamic Center of Saint Joseph is located at 2325 Messanie Street.
