A teenager from Dekalb, Missouri will serve five years probation, and 120 days of shock time in jail, for the drunk-driving death of his friend.

Dylan Pierce, 17, pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter before Judge Daniel Kellogg May 21.

Pierce was charged after a crash last December in the 3600 block of Cook Road. Mr Pierce and another passenger each sustained minor injuries. But the crash killed Cole Patrick, 18, of St Joseph.

Judge Kellogg imposed numerous conditions for Pierce’s probation. Pierce was ordered not to consume alcohol or enter a business where alcohol is the primary sale of concern. He will be evaluated for alcohol dependency, follow any recommendations from that evaluation, and make himself available at schools for presentations involving drinking and driving. He was ordered to take part in the Alive At 25 alcohol program, and will be subject to random alcohol testing.

Judge Kellogg also imposed a 10pm to 6am curfew and ordered Pierce not to operate a motor vehicle without prior court approval, to stay out of casinos, and to get his GED or high school diploma. Officials say Pierce hopes to graduate from school in Dekalb next year.

During his probation, Pierce was ordered to serve 250 hours of community service.
