St. Joseph suffers fourth straight loss as they fall to Clarinda, 2-1

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs lost their fourth consecutive game Thursday night at Phil Welch Stadium as they fell to Clarinda, 2-1.

The four-game skid is the longest this season for St. Joe’s summer college baseball team as they drop to 24-19 and 20-19 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs scored their run in the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead as Griff Gordon drove in Kyle Richards with a sacrafice fly.

That run looked like it might be enough for St. Joe starter Brandon Simmons, but in the seventh inning Clarinda’s Dean Long hit a two-out, two-run single to centerfield to give the A’s the lead and eventually the win.

Simmons went seven innings and allowed just five hits and the two runs.  He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.

Lucas Powers and Shane O’Connell led the Mustangs as they each went 3-for-4, while Richards finished 2-for-3.

St. Joseph is back at home Friday as they host Omaha at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
