Liberty police report they have found a body tentatively identified as that of Chad Rogers, the runner who disappeared on Monday.
In a news conference Friday afternoon, Sergeant Robert Kumpost, the Public Information Officer for the Liberty Police Department said his department responded to a suspicious circumstances call near the South Valley Junior High School, 800 MidJay Drive in Liberty.
Kumpost told reporters a body was found in a portable bathroom at a road construction site. He said they are not ruling out that the body could be that of the missing runner. The investigation now moves to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will determine the identity of the body and the cause of death. Kumpost did not answer questions.
The following message appeared on the “Bring Chad Rogers Home” page on Facebook this afternoon:
“Friends, it is with a very heavy heart that I communicate that the Liberty Police Department has tentatively located the body of Chad Rogers. The cause is not known at this time. The search has been called off. Please give the family space over the next few days as they process through the difficulty of this time.
“In the coming days there will be information regarding contributing financially toward the family. We will post when we have that information. Thank you for your search efforts over the last 4 days. You’ve been very helpful throughout the process.”
A huge group of volunteers had been searching for the missing runner since he turned up missing on Monday.
