Marguerite Estella Evans, 91, passed away July 29, 2013, in St. Joseph, Missouri.
She was born March 16, 1922 in Cameron, Missouri, where she lived until 1940 when she moved to St. Joseph.
On September 5, 1942 she married Leonard E. Evans, Sr. He preceded her in death in 1985 after 43 years of marriage.
Marguerite graduated from the Missouri Methodist School of Nursing in 1943. She began her career as a registered nurse working at the Missouri Methodist Hospital until 1957 when she became a school nurse with the St. Joseph School District spending 28 years at Hyde, Hosea, Douglas, Benton, Lafayette, Pershing, Washington, Floyd, Sherwood, Eugene Field, and Bode Schools. She retired in 1985.
She was a long time member of the former Third Street Presbyterian Church and a current member of the Maxwell Heights Presbyterian Church. She was an active member and past Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Marguerite was a strong Christian woman with much faith and trust in God and her church. She cared about people and was a kind and giving person to everyone. She will be sadly missed by friends and family.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Zephyr (Spore) Howard; brothers, Harry, Alton, David Howard; a sister, Clarbel Haskell; and a great-grandson, Brian Cumberworth.
She is survived by four children, Leonard E. Evans, Jr., Wayne R. Evans (Julie), Elaine Beth Evans, and Rebecca Jean Evans; nine grandchildren, Danny Evans (Lois), Ronnie Evans (Billie), Kimberly Evans, Shelley Squires (Tim), Michael Evans, Lucas Evans, Samuel Evans, Jack Evans and Olivia Evans; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 3:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2:30 P.M.
