With school starting just right around the corner, crayons, bottles of glue, notebooks, and more will soon be filling backpacks in our area. The United Way and the Salvation Army have partnered together once again for the Stuff the Bus campaign. This is an opportunity to bring volunteers together while also meeting a need in the community.

Linda Burns, Director of Community Engagement, has seen this project from the beginning, and is pleased with the great response from the community for their eagerness to help. “It’s so amazing to send out the save the date information to previous volunteers are so eager to help with this event.”

One exciting change she saw this year was from American Family Insurance. They held an internal competitive school supply drive prior to this weekend’s event. Employees were awarded points depending on the supplies brought in. Those supplies will be delivered today. In addition, 60 of their staff members will volunteer to help collect supplies. In the future, Burns hopes to see more involvement through internal drives from area businesses.

With the support of 300 volunteers, school supplies will be counted and stuffed in front of both Walmart locations today (8/2 until 7pm) and tomorrow (8/3 from 8am-5:30pm). If you are unable to make it by during the drop off times, there will be an opportunity to donate inside the store. Both supplies and cash donations are welcome.
