Jasper County authorities confirm they have arrested Shawn Winkfield-Maynard, the St Joseph man wanted for the drowning death of his infant son.

Winkfield-Maynard is being held in the Jasper County Detention Facility after his arrest by Carthage, Missouri police.

He is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his eight month old son. Authorities accuse the man of leaving his son unattended in a bath tub for an extended period of time.

Young Kion Winkfield-Maynard was found unresponsive in the bathtub in a home in the 800 block of North Fifth Street in St Joseph. He was pronounced dead after extensive resucitation efforts August 2nd.

Involuntary manslaughter charges were filed a couple of weeks later, but the father had fled.

It’s not yet known when he will be returned to St Joseph to face the charges. Bond in the case has been set at $70,000 cash or surety plus $5,000 cash.

Lieutenant Josh Cahoon, the detective supervisor for the Carthage Police Department, says they were notified by a detective in St Joseph that Winkfield-Maynard might be in the area.

Lieutenant Cahoon says a team made up of Carthage police, Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies, and their joint drug task force implemented surveillance on a relatives house. An officer spotted Winkfield-Maynard leaving the house.

He was arrested a short time later without incident.
