The St. Joseph School District will release three hours early Tuesday through Friday of this week.
The District will follow its regular schedule Monday, August 26.
With temperatures predicted to reach the mid- to upper 90s, high overnight lows and high heat indices for the rest of this week, Dr. Jake Long, Director of Student Services, Transportation and Safety chose to take extra precautions.
Bishop LeBlond High School will dismiss at 11:55 for the rest of the week. LeBlond students were dismissed Monday at 12:40 pm.
The National Weather Service is predicting daytime high temperatures above 95 degrees every day this week. According to a special weather statement issued by the weather service, we can expect heat indices between 98 and 103 degrees this week.
Dr Long says all of their schools have at least some air conditioned spaces. Those spaces can be limited to lunch rooms, libraries and such.
Dr Long said they are taking other precautions. Maintenance staff was out early Monday in an effort to circulate some of the cooler air throughout the buildings. Bottled water was brought in for students and staff. Those precautions were expected to continue through the week.
