New school superintendent Dr. Fred Czerwonka says security requirements and lack of air conditioning make many Saint Joseph school buildings too hot to learn in. Czerwonka says when he was growing up security was not the issue it is today, and classroom doors and windows could be opened to let air circulate on hot days. But those days are over. Czerwonka says district staff will re-evaluate the facilities plan with an eye toward air conditioning all classroom buildings.
Right now only 8 out of 26 buildings have air. Schools are releasing three hours the rest of this week because of the heat.
