A second man has pleaded guilty in the death of a Northwest Missouri State student last year in Maryville.

After a change of venue, the case against 24-year-old Tony Overlin of Bethany was moved from Nodaway County to Buchanan County Circuit Court. On Wednesday, Circuit Judge Patrick Robb accepted a plea bargain.

Overlin pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter in the first degree and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Tomarken Smith, from St. Louis, died last September after a fight outside a Maryville nightclub.

He was a senior majoring in pre-professional studies and minoring in coaching.

On Tuesday, 32-year-old Kevin Mooney, also of Bethany, pleaded guilty to first-degree involuntary manslaughter. He will be sentenced Sept. 30.

Both men were originally charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault for Smith’s death.
