A Northwest Missouri State University faculty member was jailed Thursday after posting on Facebook that he might take a high-powered rifle to the top of the bell tower. Northwest emailed a message to all students, faculty, and staff Thursday saying it would not tolerate threats or violence and that the teacher had been removed from campus. He is 57 years old and teaches in the communications department.
The teacher allegedly posted the message to another faculty member and said he is always optimistic at the beginning of the semester, adding, quote, “By October, I’ll be wanting to get up to the top of the bell tower with a high powered rifle — with a good scope, and probably a Gatling gun as well.” A Northwest spokesman says the university will wait for results of a law enforcement investigation before taking any other action.
