The Northwest Missouri State men’s and women’s cross country teams both walked away with first place finishes Friday in the 2013 Bearcat Open at Maryville Country Club.

Anne Herbert finished first for the Bearcat women in the 6k with a time of 23:32.2. Finishing right behind Herbet were teammates Maci Hicks, Taylor Woodruff, Katti Carroll and Jessica Johnson to round out the top five.

Northwest finished first with Iowa Western CC finishing second, York College placing third and Highland coming in fourth.

Nolan Zimmer set the mark for the men’s race with a time of 26:02.0, one minute faster than the second place finisher.

The Bearcats held down the top five finishing positions in the men’s 8k race with Drew Keefer finishing second, Wick Cunningham third, Ryan Cox fourth and Kit Anderson in fifth.

Northwest took home first place with Iowa Western CC, Highland, William Jewell and York College finishing in that order.

Both the men’s and women’s team will be back in action Saturday Sept. 21, as the Bearcats will head to Carbondale, Ill., to run in the Saluki Invitational.
