There have been varying reports about the casualties in a crash near Dearborn, Missouri on I-29 Saturday afternoon.
Officials say there are two confirmed fatalities.
Sergeant Colin Stosberg is acting as a public information officer for the crash.
“A little after one o’clock, Troop A officers were called to a double-fatality crash southbound on the Interstate-29 at the 29 mile marker,” Stosberg said in an interview.
“Southbound traffic was reduced to just the right lane at the 30 mile marker. For northbound traffic turned back to the south from the median there were several minor crashes in the backup. Southbound lanes of traffic have been reopened.” Stosberg said.
Stosberg said troopers were still on the scene working the crash at 4:20 pm, but he expected northbound traffic to be reopened by about 4:30 pm.
The crash involved a dump truck that careened between the two bridges at that location. Stosberg says the Jackson County Coroner confirmed two fatalities at the scene. Authorities were still working to confirm the identities of the victims and to notify relatives. Their names have not been released.
