(AP) — A caravan from Indiana through Missouri to Kansas will mark the 175th anniversary of the Trail of Death on which American Indians were marched westward from their homelands.
The Trail of Death Commemorative Caravan will leave Rochester on Monday and travel 660 miles through Illinois and Missouri before ending in Kansas on Sept. 29.
The caravan has been held every five years since 1988.
It will stop at historical spots and markers that are placed at the original trail’s campsites every 15 to 20 miles.
The first stop will be the Chief Menominee monument south of Plymouth.
