Charges have been filed against another suspect in connection with the apparent fatal overdose of a St Joseph woman whose body was found in a box last Friday.
Prosecutors on Thursday filed charges of involuntary manslaughter and abandonment of a corpse against 51-year-old Martin Williams.
According to court documents, Williams prepared the syringe used by Tangela Fisher.
When she became unresponsive, police say Williams built a home made box, placed her body in it, left it in a remote area of Platte County, and never reported her death. (Click here for more)
On Friday, charges of possession of a controlled substance and hindering the prosecution of a felony were filed against 31-year-old Juan Naranjo. A judge ordered Naranjo held without bond because he’s in the country illegally.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Naranjo was present at the home being shared by Williams and Fisher, at 442 N. 17th St., when Fisher died. Police say Naranjo did not contact authorities to render medical assistance “because he did not want police to respond due to him being in the country illegally.”
Police arrested Naranjo at his home at 1817 Jules Street on September 19. Officers say they found a clear plastic baggy containing a white crystalline substance, and a glass smoking pipe, in his pocket. Authorities say the the substance field tested positive for methamphetamine, and weighed about 1.5 grams.
Both suspects remain behind bars pending formal arraignment on September 24.
