40 St. Joseph School District students have been
selected for the Northwest District Honor Choir, according to Kevin Griffin, Coordinator of Secondary Fine Arts for the St. Joseph School District.
Nine students were from Benton High School, 21 from Central High School and 10 from Lafayette High School.
A total of 191 students were selected for the ensemble, from over 30 participating school districts in Northwest Missouri.
“It is a great honor to be selected to represent this fine musical ensemble,” said Griffin. “Our students continue to show great talent and dedication in the field of music – this audition is evidence of that fact.”
Students auditioned Saturday, September 14, 2013. They have been preparing for the audition since the beginning of the school year.
The Northwest District Choir will perform at Platte County High School in Platte City on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Students selected for this choir will have the opportunity to audition for the Missouri All-State Choir on that date.
The Missouri All-State Choir will perform at the annual Missouri Music Educators Association Conference at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Lake of Ozarks, Missouri on January 25, 2014.
Amber Welter is the choir director at Benton High School. Jeannie Weissenborn and Mark Pennington are the choir directors at Central High School, and David Groth is the choir director at Lafayette High School.
