(AP) — Police in Olivette are searching for smash-and-grab thieves who drove into a jewelry store, took some items, then drove away.
The crime happened about 5 a.m. Monday at Timekeepers jewelry store. An officer nearby heard the alarm sound and a chase began. Police gave up the pursuit after about six miles on Interstate 70 out of safety concerns. The search for the thieves continues.
It wasn’t immediately clear how much merchandise was taken from the store, which sells jewelry, coins and antiques.
Police say the crime involved two vehicles: A stolen pickup truck used to back into the glass front of the store, and an SUV that was the getaway vehicle.
