(AP) — Hall of Fame golfer Tom Watson has played on some of the world’s toughest courses, and designed some well-reviewed courses, too.
Now, he’s designing a decidedly easier course in the northwest corner of his home state of Missouri — a short, nine-hole layout intended to challenge but not discourage children just learning the game.
The Kansas City native made some sketches during a recent visit to the site next to the 18-hole Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville.
The project was the inspiration of dentist Bruce Twaddle, who first saw a kids’ course in Scotland. Fundraising is underway toward the estimated cost of $550,000.
Maryville is about 110 miles north of Watson’s current home, a farm in Stilwell, Kan.
