Missouri is running out of the drug used for lethal injections, and a state senator says we may have to bring back the gas chamber. Kurt Schaefer says Missouri cannot just ignore the death penalty law, which requires execution by lethal injection or lethal gas. The state has enough Propofol for three executions, with 48 inmates still on death row.
Schaefer says just one use of Propofol for the death penalty could lead the European Union to shut off supplies to the United States…and that would leave more than 15,000 hospitals and other facilities without their most commonly-used anesthetic. Schaefer is asking Governor Nixon to put money in his next budget to build a gas chamber.
