Two For The Dumb Crook File

Livingston County Sheriff's Office PatchSheriff Steve Cox offers up two stories for your dumb crook file in Livingston County.

In one, a man on probation visited his Court Services supervisor for a routine urine sample. Cox says there was something protruding from his clothing and the defendant tried to prevent staff from seeing or patting it down during a routine search.

As it turns out, Cox says the individual had two tubes hidden inside his clothing that were filled with some other person’s urine.

During the process of collecting evidence the tubes came open and spilled all over the court employee attempting to collect it. The individual faces possible charges for additional crime, and was incarcerated.

The second incident involved a female defendant that was also ordered to not consume illegal drugs and submit to drug testing. The female and her supervision officer were together in the restroom when the supervision officer saw an unusual object partially protruding from the defendant’s body. Cox says it was a small watering bottle and tube, commonly used for watering pet rabbits.

It was filled with urine from the defendant’s parent. Cox says the substitute urine tested positive for methamphetamine, which in and of itself would have violated the probation and/or bond of the defendant. The defendant is reported to have admitted the attempt to fraudulently provide a drug test and to have also been using methamphetamine.

Sheriff Cox offers these observations:
a. People normally obtain a clean sample to provide in their attempt to fraudulently pass a drug test.
b. Methamphetamine DOES NOT make you smarter.
c. Additional charge(s) are potentially pending against these people.
d. Not everyone shopping in a Pet Store has a pet.
