Northwest Missouri State freshman Nolan Zimmer was named the MIAA Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by the league office on Tuesday.

Zimmer ran 24:22.90 at the Fort Hays State Open 8K on Saturday, placing third. He was Northwest’s top finisher and helped the Bearcats to a fifth place finish. The field included 226 runners and 21 teams. Zimmer is from Kearney, Neb., and attended Kearney High School.

Northwest is off this weekend and will return to action on Oct. 26 for the MIAA Championships, which will be hosted by Pittsburg State.
