(AP) – A suburban Kansas City physician has surrendered his Missouri medical license after he was accused of sexual improprieties with three teenage Boy Scouts.

Joseph T. Mackey of Blue Springs had been scheduled for a hearing Tuesday in Jefferson City on whether he used his influence as a physician to engage his young patients in sexual activity. But he surrendered his license Monday rather than face further discipline by state regulators.

The 41-year-old Mackey strongly denied the allegations in an affidavit filed with the state.

Mackey was a leader of a Jackson County troop. He also volunteered for the Kansas City area’s Heart of America Council of Boy Scouts as the medical director and ultimately as a member of the executive board.
