Voters in Cameron approved a switch in the ambulance district’s funding mechanism from property tax to sales tax.
By a 298 to 157 margin, voters approved the half-cent sales tax. The property tax levy covered roughly one quarter of the district’s annual budget. A meeting is planned next week among board members to decide how the revenue will be spent.
Authorities expectto collect about $641,000 a year from the sales tax. They should start seeing revenues next spring.
