Livingston County officials report what appears to be a scam spun off from misunderstanding of the new health care reform law.

Sheriff Steve Cox says on November 6, two men approached a resident and asked to speak with him about insurance. Cox says both men were quickly turned away, but returned later. This time they were very insistent.

Cox says the pair claimed they “HAD to discuss this” with the resident.

They had a map and were representing themselves as government officials. The men were once again turned away by the resident. The citizen was very concerned these two men were operating a scam and wanted personal information.

“There is nothing about Obamacare which mandates you as a citizen to have to sit down and speak with anyone that comes to your home,” Cox says. “It is far better to be safe and secure.”
