Mayor Bill Falkner says using cameras to catch drivers running red lights is working in Saint Joseph. An appeals court in eastern Missouri has overturned a similar program in Ellisville. Falkner says the whole idea in Saint Joseph is to reduce accidents, and the program has done that.

The company that operates the red light camera system in Ellisville, Saint Joseph, and several other communities, American Traffic Solutions, says it will appeal to the state’s highest court.

The ruling from the appeals court reversed a decision the same court issued two years ago, that found such ordinances were legal. Now the court says the earlier position is no longer good law.
