St Joseph Transit will showcase some high-tech upgrades to its service Wednesday.
Federal grant money from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act paid for the refit.
Riders will soon get automated voice alerts of upcoming bus stops. Buses will be rigged on board mobile data computers for communications with drivers.
St Joe Transit will offer a self-service scheduling portal on its Web site. New systems will modernize and streamline the scheduling of special pickups, or “route deviations.” Customers will be able to confirm or cancel pre-scheduled deviations by voice command through a new interactive voice recognition service.
There will be arrival/departure monitors at bus stations and automated passenger counting at bus stops.
They will also offer a data feed for the Google Transit online service.
A ribbon cutting is planned Wednesday, November 13, at 4pm at the Transit Administration Building located at 502 South 5th Street.
