(AP) – A southeast Missouri woman was sentenced to seven years in prison for backing over and killing her girlfriend during an argument.
Thirty-year-old Angelia Hanson was sentenced Monday for the July death of 43-year-old Jody Lane in Cape Girardeau. She pleaded guilty in October to first-degree involuntary manslaughter.
The Southeast Missourian reports Hanson dragged Lane several feet before realizing she had hit her. Testimony at a preliminary hearing indicated that Hanson believed Lane had gone back into the house after the argument and thought she had run over a curb when she backed up.
Prosecutors acknowledged Hanson had no criminal intent but said she had a pattern of reckless behavior including several drug and alcohol-related charges and a 2005 assault on a law enforcement officer.
