Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner RT Turner expects to begin talks with Heartland early next month about details of taking over ambulance service. Turner says the county will hire a supervisor to run the operation. Heartland has been using a consultant. Turner says the county expects to hire locally to fill that position.
The Commissioners will also appoint an 11-member board to oversee the ambulance operation. Resumes and recommendations for the board are already coming in. Voters set this all in motion earlier this month when they approved a quarter-cent sales tax for ambulance service. Heartland is dropping the service next July.
