An overturned semi sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries and blocked traffic for the better part of two hours Thursday evening. By 7:30pm, emergency responders had opened the passing lane of I-29 north of the Craig Exit.

But an official in the Holt County Sheriff’s office said it was still very slow going.

Light freezing rain hampered efforts to remove the semi from the interstate.

Holt County Sheriff Scott Wedlock says freezing rain made travel hazardous throughout the area. MoDOT has made several passes through the area to improve road conditions.

Sheriff Wedlock was among the motorists trapped in traffic on the icy interstate. He says northbound traffic was completely blocked a few miles north of mile marker 92.

Wedlock says one motorist was extricated and transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
