A summons is pending against a woman whose car struck a large gas meter, forcing businesses to evacuate along part of the North Belt Highway Tuesday night.

Police say 37 year old Robin Martin of Saint Joseph collided with the meter while crossing the La Mesa parking lot at a high rate of speed. Her car came to rest on top of the meter.

Officials say she was not injured but the meter began leaking. Police advised businesses on the Belt from Woodlawn Terrace to Floral to evacuate as a precaution.

The accident happened shortly after 8 pm. That stretch of the Belt Highway was reopened at one Wednesday morning.
