Police say two people have been shot in a patient’s room at a southwest Missouri hospital in what a hospital official is calling an “isolated shooting incident.”
The shooting happened Saturday night on the ninth floor of CoxHealth in Springfield. Police said in a news release the 79-year-old man was pronounced dead not quite an hour later and the 69-year-old woman was receiving medical treatment. CoxHealth spokeswoman Stacy Fender said late Sunday morning that the woman’s condition wasn’t immediately available.
Fender said in a news release that the area where the shooting happened is a medical/surgical unit that provides generalized hospital care.
Few additional details were released, including the names of the man and woman or the relationship between them. Police didn’t immediately return phone calls seeking additional comment.
