
9:30 a.m. Fire crews were called just after 6 a.m. on Thursday to a house fire at 929 North 7th Street in Atchison. Fire Chief Mike McDermed told St. Joseph Post, “When we arrived on the scene, smoke and fire were visible from a room on the first floor. Our crews quickly extinguished the fire in the room and opened walls to extinguish flames extending up to the 2nd floor and the attic.
The majority of the damage was confined to the room on the first floor. The fire was caused by the venting part of a pellet-burning stove.”
The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the residents, Jessica Mason and Kenny Tull, Jr. There were no injuries.
