A Platte City man was arrested this week after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle to pay his taxes.
Shawn Simmer, 38, was arrested and charged with tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree.
Platte County investigators say Simmer drove a stolen 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity to the government complex of Platte County to pay his taxes.
Officials say a detective spotted a cell phone on the ground next to the car. To identify the owner of the lost cell phone they ran a records check on the vehicle. It was discovered the vehicle was stolen out of Gladstone, Missouri.
According to investigators, Simmer returned to the vehicle and tried to leave, but was arrested.
A judge set bond at $10,000. Simmer is currently being held in the Platte County Detention Center. The vehicle has been returned to the owner.
