The father of a seven-year-old boy caught with a loaded handgun at Lindbergh Elementary School remains in custody and is now scheduled for a preliminary hearing next month.
James Mueller, 29, appeared for a court arraignment via video from the Buchanan County Jail Tuesday. He is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and is being held under $20,000 bond.
Mueller’s son was spotted at the school showing off a loaded handgun. The weapon was taken by a staff member, and the youngster was escorted home pending likely disciplinary action. Â Authorities say there were no threats made and no shots fired.
Among those escorting the child were St Joseph police, who arrested Mueller on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
A judge set bond At 20-thousand dollars pending Mueller’s next court appearance January 17. A lawyer status conference is scheduled January 10. Mueller has indicated he will apply for a public defender.
