Father Of Gun-Toting Seven-Year-Old Arraigned

James D. MuellerThe father of a seven-year-old boy caught with a loaded handgun at Lindbergh Elementary School remains in custody and is now scheduled for a preliminary hearing next month.

James Mueller, 29, appeared for a court arraignment via video from the Buchanan County Jail Tuesday. He is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and is being held under $20,000 bond.

Mueller’s son was spotted at the school showing off a loaded handgun. The weapon was taken by a staff member, and the youngster was escorted home pending likely disciplinary action.  Authorities say there were no threats made and no shots fired.

Among those escorting the child were St Joseph police, who arrested Mueller on an unrelated outstanding warrant.

A judge set bond At 20-thousand dollars pending Mueller’s next court appearance January 17. A lawyer status conference is scheduled January 10. Mueller has indicated he will apply for a public defender.
