St Joseph Police have closed their investigation into what could have been a very serious bit of Christmas swordplay.

Commander Janice Rothganger tells us a party in the 500 Block of North 19th Street got out of hand early Wednesday morning. The host, James Justus, pulled out a sword.

Another person at the party tried to take the sword away from Mr Justus, and both men were cut.

Mr. Justus was treated at Heartland for a laceration to his arm. The other man refused to press charges.

“The way I understand it, Mr Justus was agitated over something that had taken place at the party,” Rothganger said. “This was not horseplay, so both parties are very lucky they were not more seriously injured.”
