1:55 p.m. Authorities in Nodaway County are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in a rural area northwest of Hopkins on Friday night. Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White told St. Joseph Post “The incident occurred during a domestic dispute between family members.”
Mickey LoBdell, age 34, was shot in the chest just after 11:30 p.m. and died of his injuries. One suspect, Lewis Schrodt, 51, an uncle by marriage to LoBdell, was originally taken into custody. “He has been released pending further investigation,” said White.

“There were ten people in the house and we have interviewed everyone. We are in contact with the prosecuting attorney and will wait to hear more from him on what happens next. This appears to be self-defense. The shooter was somewhat disabled and the victim supposedly had a history of violent behavior,” said White.
