The Missouri State Parks Division is offering a new tradition for people on New Year’s Day.
The Parks Division is offering more than 40 First Day Hikes at state parks throughout Missouri on New Year’s Day.
The events come complete with refreshments, guides, and door prizes.
State Parks Director Bill Bryan says First Day Hikes have something for everyone, including those unfamiliar with hiking in Missouri. And he says winter hikes are growing in popularity.
“There’s a variet of hikes available,” Bryan says. “They range from a half mile to two miles. There are scenic views, various different habitats, and wildlife watching opportunities.”
The First Day Hikes started three years ago, and Bryan says they are growing in popularity for people who want to get out, get some exercise and enjoy Missouri’s natural beauty.
“Last year the group that went to Prairie State Park on New Years Day was able to see the herd of bison thundering across the prairie,” Bryan says, “so there are some unique experiences to be found on New Years Day with a First Day Hike.
Among the state parks offering the “First Day Hikes” are Wallace State Park in Cameron, Weston Bend in Weston, and Crowder State Park in Trenton. Find a link to the complete here.
